We haven’t been able to have some activity (like short retreat or having dinner together in a nice restaurants) since Feb, this year, due to COVID-19 pandemic.
At this time, things have been good, and a few students with professor take some walk at Hanbit forest, which is close to KAIST.

KAIST and KISTI started a collaboration research lab., and our lab participated in the research lab in the field of AI technology and big data analysis.
Our lab also got a small research funding along those topics.

올 초에 연구실에서 다양한 연구과제 제안을 진행하였습니다. 현재 ITRC 과제가 채택되어서 앞으로 7년간 진행 예정입니다. 이 과제에서는 융복합 시뮬레이션 관련 기술을 연구할 예정이고, 우리 연구실에서는 렌더링 및 로봇틱스 관련 주제를 연구할 예정입니다.

과제 제안 준비로 고생을 한 학생들의 노력이 어느정도 인정 받아서 다행이라고 생각합니다.

South Korea has been controlling COVID-19 reasonably well, and we were able to get together and enjoy the weather.
We wish things are getting better all over the world and resume our normal activity.

In this spring semester, Prof. Yoon is giving online lectures on computer graphics and image search through YouTube.

Our lab participated in Senior Data Scientist Program for Samsung SDS since the summer of 2019.
This year (2020) we are also working together for the program with other six KAIST labs.
In that program, Prof. Yoon teaches ensemble models and recommender systems, while some of Ph.D. students of our lab works as TA in that program.

Our lab has a year-end party (lunch) with some of lab alumni.

지난 12월 17일 우리 전산학부 윤성의 교수가 서울마포구 에쓰오일 본사에서 ＇2019년도 에쓰오일 과학문화재단 시상식에서 1회 에쓰-오일 차세대 과학자상 (IT 부문)을 수상했다.

수상자 선정은 지난 10년간의 탁월한 성과와 높은 잠재력을 가진 45세 이하의 젊은 과학자를 대상으로 선정했으며
윤성의 교수는 컴퓨터 그래픽스 분야에서 실사 렌더링 기술, 컴퓨터 비젼 분야에서 대용량 초고속 이미지 검색 기술, 로봇틱스 분야에서 소리위치 추적 기술 분야 등에서 크게 기여를 인정받았다.

본 시상식은 한국과학기술한림원과 한국대학총장협회, 에쓰오일 과학문화재단 주관으로 진행되었다.

SooMin Kim successfully finished her Ph.D. proposal.

12/5일에 성남시-KAIST 공동 주최로 자율이동/AI 기술이전 설명회가 판교 스타트업 캠퍼스에서 있었습니다. 윤성의 교수님이 참석하여 연구실에서 개발된 관련 기술/특허를 설명하였고, 기업들의 많은 관심을 받았다고 합니다.

연구실에서 연구재단 중견과제 진행을 위해 Fetch Robot을 구입하였고, 활용을 이미 시작하였습니다. Fetch robot이 연구실 새로운 member가 된것 같습니다.
그리고 (사진에는 없지만) 홍선군은 석사 Defense를 잘 하였고, LG에서 회사를 다니기로 하였습니다.

KAIST에서 SW 스타랩 미래기술 포럼을 개최하였습니다.
KAIST 소속 연구실로서 포럼 준비를 진행하였고, 행사를 잘 완료 하였습니다.
